Removal of apprenticeship frameworks

As part of the apprenticeship reforms, no new SASE frameworks have been developed or issued since 31 August 2014 and new apprenticeship standards are being developed by groups of employers (Trailblazers).

On 7 December 2015 BIS published English Apprenticeships: Our 2020 Vision which set out our plans for raising the quality of apprenticeships and achieving 3 million apprenticeship starts by 2020. This confirms that the new employer-led apprenticeship standards will eventually replace the current frameworks.

Over the course of the parliament the SFA expects volumes of starts to significantly increase on apprenticeship standards and to decrease on apprenticeship frameworks, with a significant shift to apprenticeship standards by the funding year 2017 to 2018.

For future batches of frameworks, where there are recent and ongoing starts, we expect to give a longer notice period before a framework is closed to new starts.

A list of apprenticeship standards which are currently available is available on the apprenticeship changes page.
